A virtual world devised by Marker and his computer scientist and engineer friend Max Moswitzer, in reference to Adolfo Bioy Casares' book The Invention of Morel. L'Ouvroir is a 3D island that we are welcomed onto by the avatar of the famous cat Guillaume-en-Egypte, allowing us to visit various spaces including a museum presenting photos by Marker, a cinema, a reading room containing, among other books, the Little Planet guides, the Silent Movie installations, and The Hollow Men, cinema posters, a portrait gallery of filmmaker friends, as well as a gallery of X-Plugs collages.
Based on a selected trajectory L'Ouvroir. The Movie is the film that Marker made based on elements designed on this 3D platform (Second Life) (address 189.70.39) in order to, paradoxically, “bid farewell to cinema, no doubt” and most certainly in order to allow this island and its avatars to subsist infinitely.
Marker is also present by way of his Russian-Japanese avatar, Sergei Murasaki, as though to affirm this “desire for the unreal reality of another life and for a game of 'cheating-death' in order to survive the inhumanity of the age without ever ignoring any of it” wrote Raymond Bellour in the journal Trafic (n° 84).
